Diwali is celebrated to mark the season of harvest and the mythological significance is related to the Lord Ram.

On this day, huge quantities of choicest dishes are prepared with the new crop and offered to Lord Vishnu with great love, and that is why it is called, Annakut.

The traditional ‘annakut’ is celebrated and ‘govardhan puja’ is observed to worship Lord Krishna to praise his success in lifting the Govardhan Mountain, followed by a sumptuous meal.

Kartik Sudi 1 (Pratipada): Annakut Celebrations; “Chhappan Bhog” are offered on this day.

The significance of this ritual is that invite Lord and offer Him all His favourite food items. In return, people seek Krishna’s protection against all odds in their lives. Hence, the ritual of Chappan Bhog is of great importance for the Hindus.

 “Annakut Festival”

(Mahã Prasãdam) is the offering of sweets, dry fruits, fruits and other delicious items, to Šri Krishna to mark the beginning of the New Year. Along with these offerings, devotees pray seeking Happiness, Prosperity, Good Health and Peace for the coming year.
