Canada Day Parade 2017

01 Jul 2017 | 12:00 pm - 12:00 pm
Place : Franklin Ave, Downtown

Dear Members,
Like previous years, SMCS is participating in Canada Day Parade organized by Regional Municipality of
Wood Buffalo. Come celebrate our nation’s 150th birthday at the annual Canada Day Parade!
Canada Day is a free, fun-filled, family-friendly celebration with something for everyone. There is a full day of family-focused activities at MacDonald Island Park and Heritage Village.
Members who are able to join us with SMCS Float, please come dressed in Indian traditional outfits. Please bring Canada Flags if
already available with you. Participants are requested to arrive at staging area by 10:00 AM. See map for location.

Parade Route
The parade route starts at the intersection of Riedel Street and Franklin Avenue and goes north along Franklin Avenue to Morrison Street. This will result in the following road closures:

  • Riedel Street to Queen Street on Prairie Loop Boulevard (staging area)
    • Closed 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.
  • Franklin Avenue and Riedel Street to Franklin Avenue and Morrison Street (parade route):
    • Closed 10:15 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a rolling open system (roads open as last parade float passes)
  • Franklin Avenue and Morrison Street to Morimoto Drive (de-staging area):
    • Closed 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Free Park N’ Ride

The Municipality is providing free public parking during the Canada Day celebrations in two downtown municipal parking lots – Hardin Street and Biggs Avenue – and at MacDonald Island Park. Parking is available on a first come, first-serve basis.

During the parade, there will be a FREE Park n’ Ride shuttle service with buses running every 15 minutes. Residents can park at MacDonald Island Park and hop on one of the four shuttle buses running to stops along the parade route from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. The last shuttle will leave MacDonald Island Park at 10:30 a.m.

As the parade finishes, shuttle buses will resume services, picking up spectators from transit bus stops along the parade route for the return trip to MacDonald Island Park. Return trips will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Thanks & Regards,

SMCS Executive Committee

Looking forward seeing you all in this Canada Day celebration.
